All good things come in fours – HNU President Prof. Dr. Uta M. Feser re-elected

29.12.2020, University News :

The University Council of Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences has re-elected Prof. Dr. Uta M. Feser as President. The incumbent prevailed against an opposing candidate and will remain in office for another five years - until 28 February 2026 - in her 4th term of office.

"Many thanks to the members of the University Council for their great trust in my work. By being re-elected, I feel confirmed in my efforts for the further development of the HNU," Prof. Dr. Uta M. Feser is pleased to say. "Especially in these current difficult times, the corporate culture that we live by at the HNU is clearly evident: modern, innovative, digitally flexible and sustainable. I am looking forward to continuing my efforts to promote Neu-Ulm as a place to study and to strengthen the university's attractiveness for academics and potential employees. In the coming years, we will continuously sharpen the profile of the HNU and strengthen the quality of its services as well as its innovative strength at all levels. This extends to all our core areas such as teaching, postgraduate studies, research and transfer as well as to the expansion of the focus on entrepreneurship and start-ups with the support of our joint project StartupSüd."

Prof. Dr. Uta M. Feser has been in office since March 2006 and has significantly developed HNU during this time: The third Faculty of Health Management was founded, the range of courses was expanded to include the part-time Bachelor's programme "Management for Health and Nursing Professions" as well as the Bachelor's programmes "Business Studies in Healthcare Management", "Information Management Automotive", "Game Production and Management", "Business Psychology" and "Physician Assistant".

Establishing the "university as a service provider for the region" is something Feser has achieved with the expansion of applied research. HNU underwent a remarkable growth process during her tenure to date, which is evident, among other things, in the expansion of the spatial infrastructure through the extension building opened in September 2018. Feser also pursued the strengthening of the university as a family-friendly place to study as well as the compatibility of family and career and the expansion of HNU as an international business school with a high level of public service commitment.

Science Minister Bernd Sibler congratulated Prof. Dr. Feser on her re-election: "Congratulations on your confirmation in office! Prof. Dr. Uta M. Feser has shaped the profile of the Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences in many ways during her three terms in office to date and has firmly anchored the HNU as a strong partner in the region. The re-election as president is also a confirmation of the successful path Prof. Dr. Feser has taken at the helm of the HNU over the past 15 years: With her keen sense for the issues of the future, with determination and empathy, foresight and prudence, she has played a decisive role in shaping both the Swabian and the Bavarian higher education landscape. I am very much looking forward to continuing the trusting and constructive cooperation over the next five years."

On the presidential election

Due to the development of the pandemic, there was a change in planning from an originally planned attendance election to a postal election. For this purpose, the basic regulations of the HNU also had to be changed. Three candidates presented themselves on 11 December 2020 on the basis of the election proposal by the Chairperson of the University Council, Dr Merk, and the Chairperson of the Senate, Prof. Dr Bardens. In the end, two candidates were elected. The postal vote was counted yesterday, 28 December 2020.
