HNU starts third online semester with around 500 new students

26.03.2021, University News :

Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU) welcomed around 500 new students for the 2021 summer semester. This brings the total number of students enrolled at HNU to over 4,000. Vice-President Prof. Dr. Julia Kormann says in her first semester welcome: "HNU is not bound to the building, HNU is our culture, the way we interact with each other."

Due to the Corona pandemic, the 2021 summer semester at Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences will once again begin as an online semester. The orientation phase of the student council also took place online and Vice-President Prof. Dr. Julia Kormann gave her welcome address at the start of the semester digitally: "What lecturers and students appreciate at Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences is that teaching and learning is independent of time and place. The flexibility of digital teaching is a great relief." However, she also observes uncertainty among students. Not all students cope well with self-directed learning. The Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences therefore actively supports students: the student advisory service and the subject advisors for each degree programme are there to help students. In addition, the Counselling and Information Centre for Parents, Personal and Social Affairs, or BIZEPS for short, supports students in all matters not directly related to their studies. At the end of her address, Prof. Kormann said: "HNU is not bound to the building, HNU is our culture, the way we interact with each other."

They are studying MBA General Management (15), MBA Digital Leadership and IT Management (7), MBA Leadership and Management in Healthcare (11) or taking the Data Science certificate course (12).

Special regulations for the summer semester 2021
In its meeting on 23 March 2021, the Senate of Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences also adopted special regulations for the summer semester 2021 against the background of the current pandemic. For example, other forms of examinations may be used; an application to the examination board is required for this. In addition, no presence examinations are to take place. Students must be informed of the change in the form of examination by the end of May 2021. Withdrawals from examinations are normally possible up to four weeks before the start of the examination period (i.e. up to and including 13.06.2021). Examinations that have already been taken or started cannot be deregistered. Exceptions to this can be applied for with the responsible examination board if there are important reasons. The practical semester can be completed in several sections (maximum three) and possibly also in a home office. A postponement of the practical semester can be applied for.
