An insight into auditing: HNU students visit a firm in Ulm

27.05.2026, Study:

What is tax and management consultancy like in the real world? Students specialising in ‘Annual Accounts’ on the Business Administration (BA) degree programme at Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU) gained an insight during a study visit to SGP Schneider Geiwitz Ulm. On site, they gained authentic insights into the areas of annual audit, tax consultancy and business consultancy – and thus into key areas of their future professional field.

The excursion was led by the programme director, Prof. Dr Stefan Weber, and Prof. Dr Niklas Homfeldt, Dean of the Faculty of Economics. It was organised and run largely by several HNU alumni who now work at the firm – which is characterised by its focus on small and medium-sized enterprises – and who provided the students with an authentic insight into their day-to-day working lives. “The direct exchange with our graduates clearly demonstrates to the students just how varied and responsible the work in auditing is,” emphasises Prof. Dr Stefan Weber.

In addition to professional insights, the excursion also provided an opportunity for personal discussions about career paths, work processes and the demands of a modern firm. A barbecue on the roof terrace – with a view of the Danube just a few metres away – rounded off the day in a relaxed atmosphere.
