Using AI requires more than just technology
Artificial intelligence was one of the key topics of the meeting. Andreas Burkhardt emphasised that, in future, the decisive factor will be professionals who combine technology with a sound understanding of the market and strong social skills: “Knowledge alone will no longer be enough in future; it’s all about the right mindset.”
Future Skills and Current Challenges Facing the Pharmaceutical Industry
In this context, it became clear just how closely universities and companies can collaborate in the development of future skills. “Combining specialist knowledge with the right attitude, communication skills and the ability to manage change is a key success factor that we wish to further strengthen in both academia and industry,” summarised Prof. Dr Julia Kormann.
Current challenges were also discussed, particularly with regard to regulatory requirements and the economic pressure on the sector. This is evident, for example, in the case of generic medicines: although these account for the majority of the supply of medicines, their production is coming under increasing pressure. The reason for this is low profit margins, which are prompting many companies to withdraw from the market. Geopolitical scenarios were also part of the discussion.
Fostering talent together and generating regional impact
Both partners benefit from the collaboration: HNU students gain valuable practical experience at Teva and open up career opportunities for themselves, whilst the company secures qualified young talent at an early stage. At the same time, the partnership strengthens the regional transfer of knowledge and innovation. Even smaller practical projects can have a significant impact. Raising the profile of these projects and developing them further together is a key priority for Teva and HNU.

The partnership encompasses a wide range of engagement initiatives, including field trips, guest lectures, practical projects and final-year dissertations. Through lecturers and alumni such as Kathrin Gass, Teva helps to forge close links between academic study and professional practice.
