With this reappointment, the UWC recognizes its long-standing and successful collaboration with Prof. Meyer in research and teaching. At the same time, the appointment underscores the close partnership that has existed for many years between the HNU Africa Institute and South African universities.
In recent years, Prof. Meyer has played a key role in further developing the collaboration between the two universities. Joint activities include research projects and innovative teaching formats that connect students and staff from both institutions. These include, among other things, project-based courses, field trips, and international hackathons. One example of this successful cooperation is the “Digital Logistics Services and Entrepreneurship.” (DLSE) project, funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). As part of the project, students from Germany and South Africa worked together on issues related to digitalization and sustainability.
Another milestone in the collaboration was Prof. Meyer’s research semester at the University of the Western Cape in 2024. Through close collaboration with local researchers, existing projects were expanded upon and new scientific initiatives were launched. With the extension of the adjunct professorship, the cooperation between Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences and the University of the Western Cape will continue and be expanded in the coming years. The goal remains to jointly develop innovative teaching and research projects and to provide students at both universities with international learning experiences.
