Prof. Dr. Julia Kormann, Vice President of HNU, welcomed the 40 guests and congratulated the scholarship holders:innen on their scholarship, which provides them with 300 euros per month. In her speech, she emphasised the importance of science in society and stressed that the current challenges can only be mastered together.
Afterwards, Prof. Dr. Erik Rederer introduced the 21 scholarship holders:innen and 16 sponsoring regional companies. The question of what significance the German scholarship has for the scholarship holders was followed by answers such as "It enables me to be active in my free time", "Recognition that you are on the right track" or "Good networking with companies". Terms like "appreciation", "security" and "relief" were also dropped.
The sponsors also explained their motivation for supporting students. For many regional companies it is particularly important to be in contact with capable and motivated young people and to keep them in the region. Others see it as their social responsibility to appreciate and promote special achievements. Many companies have been supporting outstanding students for several years now.
A special item on the programme of the handover ceremony was a chocolate tasting, during which the master chocolatier and certified chocolate sommelier Birgit Heel presented five different types of chocolate. "Love goes through the stomach," said Vice-President Kormann, underlining at the farewell ceremony that it is also possible to be close in virtual space.
