Current success story: MBA graduate Peter Wollny in an interview "The MBA studies at HNU have once again significantly broadened my horizon"

09.12.2020, Postgraduate :

From regional manager to medical director: MBA alumnus Peter Wollny is on course for success. We asked what advantages he has gained from successfully completing his part-time MBA programme Leadership and Management in Healthcare

Centre for Postgraduate Studies: "Congratulations, Mr Wollny. We were delighted to learn that you are now the medical managing director of the AnästhesieAgentur Personaldienstleistungen GmbH, which is part of the Hire a Doctor Group, an established personnel service provider in the healthcare sector.

Would you say that your career advancement into management was also enhanced by the award of your academic degree, the Master of Business Administration, which you successfully completed in 2019?".

Peter Wollny: "Without further training, I would certainly not have reached this position. After all, I "only" completed a medical degree and then acquired all the rest of my knowledge myself in the course of my studies. So the MBA was extremely helpful in preparing for such a position".

Centre for Postgraduate Studies:"Every professional continuing education is also a personal development. What skills and knowledge for your new position were you able to develop in your part-time studies?

Peter Wollny: "It helped me a lot that the spectrum in the MBA was very broad. This gave me the opportunity to delve into exactly those topics that are useful for my job. Especially in business management topics I was able to gain a lot of knowledge.

Centre for Postgraduate Studies: "Surveys with our graduates have shown us that the decision to do an MBA is not made spontaneously, but matures over a longer period of time and is often part of precise career planning. How long did you think about doing an MBA and what was the decisive factor for you to start studying?

Peter Wollny: "I actually wanted to start much earlier, but then postponed the start again because it suited the family better. Over the years, the compatibility of family, studies and career has often been a small balancing act. But then the children were already a bit older, so it was easier for us as a family.

Centre for Postgraduate Studies: "What qualities do you think an MBA student should bring with him/her to successfully complete the part-time continuing education programme?

Peter Wollny: "I think ambition is one of the most important qualities. It takes stamina to successfully complete the programme. But you should also have curiosity and a desire for new things.

Centre for Postgraduate Studies: "Why did you decide on a part-time study programme with a combination of classroom-based courses and e-learning elements and not purely online studies?".

Peter Wollny: "Even in my medical studies, I preferred to study in groups, because that way you can always motivate each other. That was also a decisive factor in the MBA decision. It also showed that it was the right decision - also because friendships were formed during this time.
