After a welcome by HNU Vice-President Prof. Dr. Jens Kolb, who introduced the HNU and its profile to the children and parents in the lecture hall, the guests divided into four groups. They took turns visiting the various 45-minute presentations.
Robotics workshop
One of the activities on offer was a robotics workshop with Professor Dr Dany Meyer and Professor Dr. Erica Weilemann and student assistants Ana-Maria Mazar and Felix Gollmitzer in the HNU TechLab. Children learned the principles of computer science with the indi robot and steered it through an obstacle course. The learning robot promotes independent problem solving and supports the development of spatial and logical thinking.
How does a company work: Workshop organised by the Faculty of Economics
In the workshop "The Chocolate Factory – How Does a Company Work?" led by Prof. Dr. Johannes Schmitz from the Faculty of Economics, the children learned how chocolate gets to the supermarket – from the purchase of raw materials to production and marketing.
Behind the scenes at the media centre
Camera rolling: At the media centre, the children joined student assistants Martin Ambronn, Nadja Rieger, Manh Dinh Nguyen and Alessia Salihi for a behind-the-scenes look at the film and photo studio and took their seats in the control room. They were allowed to record news reports in front of the green screen, give directing instructions, try out different camera lenses and have their photos taken in front of the screen.
Storytelling theatre in the library
In the library, the children listened eagerly to the Kamishibai storytelling theatre by Karen Füller, Gisela Bevilacqua and Anja Gerl, and then coloured in pictures related to the story. They also gained a little insight into the library as a place of learning for students. At the same time, Barbara Mäule-Müller and Timo Guter gave the parents a tour of the library.
