What is a university?
A university is something like a school for adults.
Here you can learn something.
Learning at a university is called studying.
For some professions you have to study.
If a person wants to study, he or she first needs a good school-leaving certificate:
The Abitur or Fach-Abitur.
People without a school-leaving certificate can also study.
In that case, they must have completed a vocational training beforehand.
Or they must have worked in a profession beforehand.
After that, you can study something that suits your profession.

At the HNU there is the area of Postgraduate studies.
Here, people can study who already have a job.
These people want to become smarter or earn more.
That's why they want to continue their education.
They want to study and work at the same time.
That means they don't have to choose between studying and working.
They usually work a little shorter hours than other people.
They study and learn in their free time.
Postgraduate studies usually cost money.
What does research mean?
Researchers work at the HNU.
These are curious and clever people.
They want to find out something new.
To do this, they sometimes interview lots of people.
Or they conduct experiments and tests.
Researchers are also called academic staff or professors.
Many professors also do research and teach students.
They are like teachers for adults.
What does transfer mean?
Researchers who find out something new work at the HNU.
People in companies or firms also often work to find something out.
People in companies or firms want to invent good things.
They then want to sell these things.
So that they can invent better things, they work together with the researchers at the university.
The researchers help with knowledge.
So the researchers bring smart ideas from the university to companies or firms.
This is called transfer.
What does international mean?
A person who studies at the HNU learns other languages.
He learns English, for example.
Students are also allowed to go abroad.
They then move to another country. Usually for half a year.
They continue their studies in the other country.
This way they learn a lot about the world and other countries and people.
HNU is friends with many universities around the world.
These universities are called partner universities.
