International perspectives: HNU co-operation in Georgia on the way

02.07.2025, International:

As part of the internationalisation strategy of Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU), Prof. Dr. Elmar Steurer, the university management's representative for internationalisation, visited three renowned universities in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia. The aim of the trip was to initiate and intensify new partnerships.

Stay at the Ilia State University (ILIA)

The first stop took Prof Dr Elmar Steurer to Ilia State University (ILIA) in the heart of Tbilisi. After presenting HNU's international Master's programmes, Prof. Dr. Nikoloz Kavelashvili, Dean of Business, Technology and Education, and Salome Bilanishvili, Head of the International Office, were very interested in a future exchange of students and lecturers.

Guest at the Caucasus University (CU)

At the Caucasus University (CU), housed in an architecturally impressive building from the 19th century, Steurer was welcomed by Mrs Maka Chighitashvili. The university pursues a strongly international mission with a high proportion of international students and an English-language curriculum.

Besuch der Internationalen Schwarzmeer-Universität (IBSU)

The trip concluded with a visit to the International Black Sea University (IBSU). Ms Medina Mamedova, Manager of the International Office, presented the university's study structure and international orientation. It was particularly pleasing that the IBSU students showed great interest in participating in HNU short-term programmes such as the Crypto Currency & Blockchain Winter School in November.

"I am delighted with the openness and commitment of our Georgian partner universities. This trip was an important step towards promoting intercultural exchange and launching joint projects in a country that offers our students highly attractive study opportunities," summarises Steurer.
