On 26 November 2025, international student Allanis Bahr Menuci from Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU) was awarded the 2025 German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Prize for her outstanding academic achievements and voluntary work. The Brazilian student is in her third semester of the Master's programme in International Corporate Communications and Media Management. The prize, worth €1,000, recognises not only her achievements but also her intercultural competence.

Prof. Dr. Elmar Steurer, Internationalisation Officer at HNU, presented Allanis Bahr Menuci with the award during International Week. "Allanis Bahr Menuci impressed us greatly with her application. Allanis Bahr Menuci began her studies at HNU in the winter semester of 2024/2025. She has already completed a several-month internship at BMW in Germany and is currently working as a student trainee at Siemens Healthineers. In addition, she acts as a buddy to other international students at HNU, helping them to integrate into German culture and apply for jobs at German companies. In February 2018, she also began volunteering with the Rotary Youth Club on cultural projects in small communities in Brazil and Colombia and served as vice president until 2021.

"I am very happy about the award and would like to express my sincere thanks," said the 23-year-old after the ceremony. “Being an international student in Germany is anything but easy. My mission is to help all 'internationals' with integration and career planning in Germany. I am looking forward to continuing my studies and, in particular, to my master's thesis on 'Multicultural Integration in the German Labour Market'.”

Internationale Woche an der HNU

During International Week, which is organised annually by the HNU International Office, students can find out about all aspects of studying abroad. International exchange students and HNU students came together at the International Fair on 26 November.

About the DAAD Prize

The DAAD Prize has been awarded for more than ten years and aims to give a face to the large number of international students at German universities and connect them with stories. This makes it clear that every single international student takes a piece of Germany back to their home country and leaves something of themselves behind in Germany – an enrichment for both sides. The students who have received such an award through their respective host universities represent their fellow students from all over the world. They are future partners for Germany in business, politics and science.
