House of Sustainability moves into HNU Founders Space

The House of Sustainability is a community of responsibility that forms an umbrella for all projects and initiatives working towards a more sustainable future. Neither regional nor thematic boundaries are set. The association promotes a common interest in achieving the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (opens in a new window). Science, companies, NGOs, municipalities and citizens take an active part in the technological, economic, ecological and social shaping of the region. The project was launched in September 2020 with a first broad-based workshop.

"We are pleased to welcome the House of Sustainability, a social start-up, to our premises. The collaboration with other founders and the HNU team has shown how much overlap there was among all the teams involved in terms of their challenges and work steps. The project enriches both our spaces and society immensely and so we are very happy and proud to be able to accompany them," says Martin Schwarz, research associate for the area of start-up promotion, innovation & transfer at HNU.

Venue, organiser and change workshop

On the one hand, the House of Sustainability functions as a place where the various groups can meet, exchange ideas, hold meetings and plan projects together. Office day is every Thursday from 2 to 6 pm. On the other hand, the HdN takes on a transfer and educational mission: it offers a platform for a wide variety of active and interested people, where seminars and events can be publicised and perceived. Last but not least, the HdN also sees itself as a change workshop that promotes projects in Ulm, Neu-Ulm and the region and anchors sustainability issues there, explains Ivanka Burger from InnoSÜD, a co-creator of the HdN.

Next steps

At the moment, the HdN is not only looking for more like-minded people but also for innovative forms of financing to put this initiative on a solid footing. The HdN is also happy to receive financial support in the form of donations or secured loans.
