Career choices continue to be shaped by traditional stereotypes: While boys are often oriented toward technology, girls more often choose social professions. Yet both the digital transformation and the move toward greater sustainability require new skills. The Germany-wide Future Day for Girls and Boys - Girl's Day and Boy's Day - aims to break down these role stereotypes: It opens up new areas of experience for young people, regardless of gender, and enables them to make career decisions based on their own interests, talents and personal motivation.
Get exciting career insights and meet role models
At HNU, both girls and boys will gain insights into the fields of IT/technology and health, respectively, on April 28. Girls' Day will revolve around apps and their development: Prof. Dr. Dany Meyer will lead a workshop on "DEVELOPING MY APP! - Start with fun for female computer scientists", she introduces female students aged 14 and older to programming and shows how easy it is to get started (places already taken).
Heart health and fitness app: Places still available at HNU's Boys' Day
The first Boys' Day offering focuses on an important human organ: In the workshop organized by Prof. Dr. Walter Mihatsch, Prof. Dr. Judith Manz and Prof. Dr. Mona Spiegel, "Have you got something on your heart - we'll find out! Your heart in anatomy - diagnostics - stress", students aged 16 and over will learn all about the heart (places still available). "Fitness App: Your Design - for Creatives in Health Management" is the second Boys'-Day offer, in which Prof. Dr. Alexander Würfel guides students aged 14 and older to develop initial solutions without programming (places already taken).
Further information can be found at www.girls-day.de and www.boys-day.de. Registration is also possible there until April 27.
There will also be another offer during the summer vacations: From August 8 to 12, 2022, the second summer school "AppInventors" will take place, in which students from grade 9 will learn in one week to program their own apps for the smartphone. About the activities of the HNU Women's Representative
The digital transformation needs the diversity and creative forces of all in study and work. Promoting the digital participation of women is therefore a central concern of the Women's Representative Prof. Dr. Claudia Kocian-Dirr (opens in a new window). Because we are convinced that enthusiasm for the digital transformation can be awakened by role models, we present achievable role models, promote personal and professional development, and create spaces for constructive exchange. Our activities address all academic target groups, from students to lecturers and research assistants to professors. Workshops for schoolgirls complement our measures in order to create the basis for equal opportunity digital participation at an early stage.
