In his welcoming address, Prof. Dr. Wolfang Hauke, President of Kempten University of Applied Sciences, explained the importance of the cooperative degree program between the universities of Augsburg, Kempten and Neu-Ulm: "Interdisciplinary engineering education is playing an increasingly important role in national as well as international companies. The flexible combination of practical work in the company and project-based learning creates optimal conditions for a successful career path for the graduates." Dr. Hans Martin Steiger, third mayor of the city of Memmingen, also congratulated the graduates on their graduation and explained the importance of qualified specialists for the region.
Dr. Paul Spannaus, Lead Engineer at Electronic Chassis Systems in Gaimersheim, gave an insight into the applications of automated driving functions in the automotive sector. Dr. Spannaus outlined the major tasks of system understanding and design of existing and currently unknown solutions that awaited the graduates of the program. In-depth specialist knowledge of major engineering disciplines combined with a connecting understanding of architecture enabled engineers to design in this complex world.
Focus on the future
"You have now spent four years dealing with the current challenges of digitalization and Industry 4.0 and have skillfully combined your profession and studies. You may now bear the title Bachelor of Engineering, you are highly qualified specialists for the companies in the region. The future belongs to you!" explained Prof. Dr. Thomas Kirchmeier, head of the program at Augsburg University of Applied Sciences.
In October 2017, the current graduates started their studies at the university centers in Nördlingen or Memmingen. During their studies, they dealt with application-oriented programming in the fields of electronics, mechanics and computer science. The basic studies were designed as a broad engineering education in mechatronics and computer science. Subsequently, the students deepened their studies in the subject areas of digitalization or Industry 4.0.
Flexible and innovative study
The Systems Engineering program trains experts for Industry 4.0 in full-time, part-time and intensive study options. This enables companies to recruit new staff and train and develop employees flexibly, part-time and close to home. High school graduates can obtain a university degree with a high level of practical relevance. They are supported by modern and didactically high-quality e-learning offerings such as learning platforms, videocasts or videoconferences. Innovative learning formats make the acquisition of skills independent of time and location and thus compatible with work and family. Through instant messaging, students are in permanent exchange with their lecturers. This guarantees a structured and supervised preparation and follow-up of the studies.
New course starts in October 2022
The cooperative study program of the three universities of Augsburg, Kempten and Neu-Ulm is part of the innovative model project Digital and Regional and has been in existence since 2016. The Systems Engineering (B.Eng.) study program starts every year in the winter semester at the university centers in Nördlingen and Memmingen. Interested students can still apply for the degree program at Augsburg University of Applied Sciences until July 15.
