03.06.2025, Research:

A team from the DigiHealth Institute at Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU) was represented at this year's Medical Informatics Europe Conference (MIE2025), which took place in Glasgow, Scotland, from May 19 to 21, 2025. The researchers contributed several presentations on the conference theme “Intelligent health systems - From technology to data and knowledge” - including deep learning in medical imaging and public health interventions.

The annual conference organized by the European Federation for Medical Informatics (EFMI) brings together experts from science, healthcare, industry and politics. The focus is on current research findings, technological developments and practical applications in the field of intelligent healthcare systems. The MIE is regarded as an important platform for international exchange, interdisciplinary networking and the promotion of innovative solutions for the healthcare sector.

The DigiHealth Institute was represented by a team of five: Henrik Hülsmann (research assistant), Ellena Spieß and Leona Stolberg (student assistants) each gave a presentation; they were accompanied by Dr. Felix Holl (postdoc and deputy head of the DigiHealth Institute) and Daniel Hieber (research assistant).

Henrik Hülsmann presented current results from the hilltop research project under the title “Assessment Recommendations for Digital Public Health Interventions in Low-Resource Settings: Initial Results of a Scoping Review”. Ellena Spieß (“Automatic Segmentation of Histopathological Glioblastoma Whole-Slide Images Utilizing MONAI”) and Leona Stolberg (“Monitoring Mental Health in Esports: Requirement Analysis and Design Concepts of an mHealth Application”) each presented a publication resulting from their bachelor thesis.
