Die German Society for Medial Informatics, Bioemtry, and Epidemology (opens in a new window) (GMDS) is an independent scientific and medical association with around 2,000 members that promotes research, teaching, and application in the fields of medical informatics, biometry, epidemiology, bioinformatics, systems biology, and medical documentation, and supports all medical disciplines in its cross-disciplinary function. The annual conference, which took place in Jena from September 7 to 11 under the motto “GMDS illuminates health,” focused on the importance of the associated subjects for illuminating and maintaining health.
In three conference presentations, researchers from the DigiHealth Institute contributed ideas on the following topics:
- Felix Holl, postdoctoral researcher and deputy director of the institute, participated in the workshop “Towards a sustainability strategy for research projects in medical informatics.”
- Daniel Hieber, research assistant and doctoral candidate at the institute, presented two publications: one paper deals with an AI system for the automatic visual classification of rare wound diseases (“Computational Dermatology – An Automatic System for Visually Classifying Rare Wound Diseases”; in cooperation with the University Hospital of Würzburg and the University of Augsburg); and a second on a deep learning-based classification of atypical mitotic figures in the Ami-Br dataset with AUCMEDI (“Classifying the AMi-Br Mitotic Figure Dataset with AUCMEDI”; in cooperation with the University of Augsburg and the University Hospital Augsburg).
- Jennifer Kircher, research assistant at the institute, presented results from the joint research project stand-by.care in cooperation with artiso solutions GmbH, which enables intelligent detection of emergency situations in the home environment of older people. Based on real interviews with senior citizens, she developed corresponding personas and thus identified requirements for different user groups.
