What advice can you give young people who are looking for the right degree programme?
Attend information days at various colleges and universities. Ask graduates about their personal experiences. For many students, it only becomes clear after the first or second semester whether their choice of degree programme was the right one. Just start with a degree programme that will enable you to enter your desired professional field later on.
Challenging or straightforward: What was your internship semester like, and what responsibilities did you assume?
The internship semester is a great opportunity to apply the knowledge you have learned in practice and to make your first contacts in the working world. I decided to focus on data protection and compliance. Even though I don't work in these areas now, I still benefit in my job from the experience I gained and the knowledge I acquired during my internship semester. In addition, this excursion into the working world offers you the opportunity to find out where your strengths and weaknesses lie, which areas you might not want to work in, or whether you identify with your tasks so much that you even write your bachelor's thesis about them. I myself and many of my fellow students were hired as working students after our practical semester. Thus, the practical semester offers you another opportunity to enter the working world.
What advice would you give to all graduates who are looking for their first job?
A job advertisement is often less than a single A4 page long. It is impossible to convey exactly what your tasks will be. Use the interview to obtain further information about the position. Nevertheless, it will take some time before you realise whether this job is right for you. My advice to you is to start in a field that interests you and focus on gaining experience and developing your skills. Don't just look at the salary, but also at how your employer wants to support your development to avoid personal stagnation. Your career is long, so you don't have to find your dream job with your first position.
Please describe your typical working day. What projects are you working on and which tasks do you particularly enjoy?
As a project manager, I have a lot of contact with colleagues at home and abroad. I supervise and support system rollouts, advise and make decisions in many different small and large projects. We have just completed a project with our colleagues in the Czech Republic. After a year of planning, implementation and testing, the Czech Uzin websites are now linked to our product information management system and our TYPO3 system. In addition to many exciting tasks, I am fortunate to work with great colleagues. A good working atmosphere and team spirit are important to me. For me, the collegiality outweighs my tasks, because even difficult tasks are easy to implement in a great team.
How would you complete the following sentence?
