Combined Studies (Ulmer Modell)
Combine a university degree with vocational training at a company such as Liebherr, Bosch Rexroth, Grob-Werke, or another industry partner. You complete both your academic studies and vocational training in just 4.5 years - compared to 6–7 years if done consecutively. Upon graduation, you receive both a Bachelor’s degree and a recognized vocational qualification.

Overview & First Steps
Application to a Company
- Find a company offering vocational training positions in the fields of Industrial Mechanic or Industrial Clerk.
- Apply early - ideally 6 to 15 months before the training starts.
- Sign a vocational training contract with the company.

Application to HNU
- Apply for the Industrial Engineering program at HNU within the regular application deadlines for the winter semester.
- Submit your vocational training contract digitally during the application process.
Program Structure
Duration: 4.5 years (longer than the standard 3.5-year Bachelor’s program)
- Semester 1:
Begins on September 1st. You spend the entire semester in vocational training at the company and vocational school. - Semesters 2 & 3:
You start your academic studies at HNU. During lecture periods, you attend university; during breaks, you work at the company. - Semesters 4 & 5:
Full-time vocational training at the company. You complete your vocational qualification with the IHK/HWK exam. - Semesters 6–8:
You return to university for full-time studies. During lecture breaks, you continue working at the company. - Semester 9:
You write your Bachelor’s thesis at the company and complete your studies.
