Study with Extended Practical Experience

Combine your academic studies with regular, intensive practical phases in a company and gain valuable professional experience. Unlike the Combined Studies (Ulmer Modell), this option does not include vocational training. Instead, you can count your internship semester and student employment (e.g. working student position) toward the programme.

To earn the “Study with extended practical experience” certificate, you must complete:

  • Bachelor: at least 150 full-time days in a company
  • Master: 8.5 months, including the Master's thesis

At HNU, all Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes can be combined with extended practical experience.

Application to a company

  • Apply for a dual study position with a company that cooperates with HNU in your chosen programme.
  • Current partner companies can be found on the Study Placement Portal.
  • Alternatively, you can apply proactively to a company that is not yet a partner of “hochschule dual” and inquire about possible cooperation.

Application to HNU

  1. Apply for your chosen degree programme at HNU within the regular deadlines.
  2. Submit the education contract with your company digitally during the application process.

Recognition of practical experience

If you are already studying at HNU, you can alternatively have a completed internship or working student position recognized toward the certificate.

Steps required:

  1. Work at least 150 full-time days in a company.
  2. Submit the following documents to Peter Marquetand via email:
    • Working student contract
    • Internship certificate
    • Employment reference (can be submitted later if not yet available)
    • If the documents do not clearly show the 150 full-time days, a confirmation from the company is required.
  3. After verification, you will receive the “Study with Extended Practical Experience” certificate.
  4. This certificate gives you a competitive edge in future applications.

FAQ

What are the requirements for the certificate?

  • The practical work must be related to your field of study.
  • Bachelor: minimum 150 full-time days in one company.
    – If you complete your internship semester in the same company, that already counts for approx. 100 days.
  • Master: minimum 8.5 months, including the Master’s thesis.
  • All practical phases must be completed at the same company.

How can I get my practical experience recognized?

  • Work at least 150 full-time days in a company.
  • Submit the required documents to Mr. Marquetand via email: – Working student contract
    – Internship certificate
    – Employment reference (can be submitted later)
    – If the total number of days is not clearly stated, request a confirmation from the company.
  • After verification, you will receive the certificate.
  • This gives you an advantage in future applications.

What is the difference compared to a dual study programme at DHBW?

At HNU, the practical phases are flexible and not bound to a fixed schedule of alternating theory and practice.
If you complete your internship semester and a working student position at the same company, you can receive the certificate with proper documentation.
