The award ceremony at the Eisbach Studios in Munich took place on Thursday evening, 28 October 2021, as a hybrid format. 150 guests were on hand as HNU graduate Sarah Haggenmüller and 31 other (university) graduates accepted their honours. The evening, which was broadcast live on the internet and on regional television, was hosted by Nina Sonnenberg, also known as rapper Fiva.
AI applications for skin cancer diagnostics
In her Master's thesis, Sarah Haggenmüller had dealt with the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in skin cancer diagnostics. In a research overview, she had systematically compiled the state of the science and developed a comprehensive opportunity and risk analysis to assess the potential of AI in the early detection of skin cancer. Within the framework of an online survey, she also investigated the extent to which potential participants in skin cancer screenings are willing to accept mobile AI applications for early detection. More information on Sarah Haggenmüller's work at the German Cancer Research Centre (DKFZ) in Heidelberg (opens in a new window) can be found on the science blog of Neu-Ulm University.
