The KI-Transfer Plus program of the Bavarian State Ministry for Digital Affairs is aimed in particular at small and medium-sized companies that have little experience in dealing with AI. KI-Transfer Plus is designed and coordinated by appliedAI Initiative GmbH, Europe's largest initiative for the application of trustworthy AI technology. A total of eight AI regional centers in Bavaria are part of the program.
AI Regional Center North Swabia bundles TTZ expertise
HNU is combining the expertise of its two technology transfer centers in the Northern Swabia AI Regional Center, which will open in 2024: the TTZ for Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence in Günzburg and the TTZ for Smart Production and Logistics in Leipheim. In the current program round, Amrei Kugler (TTZ Günzburg) and Michael Altheimer (TTZ Leipheim) are accompanying Wanzl GmbH & Co. KGaA and the vocational training center of Lehmbaugruppe GmbH (BBZ) from strategy and use case development to the implementation of concrete AI projects - in a practical and individual way.
Practical support: building knowledge, developing strategies, applying AI
Over the course of nine months, participants go through a structured process from the initial analysis of potential to the actual implementation of AI. The program pursues four central goals:
- Knowledge building: imparting general and technical AI know-how to strengthen internal expertise.
- Strategy development: Development of a company-specific AI strategy with clear ambition and selection of a suitable use case.
- Use case implementation: Concrete implementation through adaptation of existing AI tools or in-house development.
- Ecosystem: Networking with other companies in the AI Transfer Plus network - for sustainable exchange and synergy effects.
AI at Wanzl
As an international provider of retail and logistics solutions, Wanzl is pursuing a clear course of innovation. In cooperation with the TTZ, the company identifies potential for the use of artificial intelligence - for example to increase the efficiency of processes or to optimize digital customer services.
Wanzl is currently working on two use cases that are intended to promote the use of AI in day-to-day business. One of these use cases focuses on the development of an intelligent employee assistant. The aim of the project is to provide internal company information to employees in a faster, more targeted and simpler way. With the help of state-of-the-art AI technologies, important data should not only be made more efficiently accessible, but internal processes should also be sustainably optimized.
KI at the BBZ
The Augsburg & Swabia Vocational Training Center (BBZ) is also a participant in the current round of the program. As an educational institution, the BBZ focuses on the training, further education and placement of skilled workers in Bavarian Swabia.
A central use case in this context is the AI tutor, which is designed to provide learners with digital support. The AI tutor enables 24/7 support for learning content, offers tailored learning suggestions and provides targeted support for exam preparation. The use of this intelligent technology should significantly strengthen the individual support of learners.
From research to practical implementation
The project shows how valuable the exchange between science, business and education can be. The TTZs act as bridge builders - with the clear aim of making technology understandable and implementing concrete solutions together with the partnersen.
