The focus of this year's meeting was the presentation of a new mentoring format for female students on the Physician Assistant course. The format was developed by Magdalena Fremdling (coordinator of the BayernMentoring programme at HNU) and organizational psychologist Dr. Nele Honecker in close cooperation with the Faculty Women's Representatives Prof. Dr. Judith Mantz and Prof. Dr. Mona Spiegel (Faculty of Health Management). The aim of the new mentoring format is to specifically support female students in a comparatively new profession in their transition into the profession and to strengthen interprofessional exchange in the healthcare sector.
Dr. Melanie Kapapa, senior physician at Ulm University Hospital and long-standing mentor in BayernMentoring, provided an important impetus for this new offer during a workshop that preceded the round table. Empowering female students to enter the profession has long been an important concern for her, and she sees the Physician Assistant profession as a necessary contribution to the healthcare system, explained the senior physician. The exchange with female doctors promotes cooperation through better communication and creates more understanding for organizational development processes.
Preliminary exchange: workshop on the future of medicine
Like the Round Table, the workshop “Shaping the future of medicine together - exchange on successful collaboration between female doctors and physician assistants” takes place once a year and is a further development of the mentoring program for a target group for which there are currently few role models. “The event impressively demonstrated how valuable and enriching the interprofessional exchange between female doctors and physician assistants is for the future of medicine,” emphasized one participant. "The open discussion about the opportunities and challenges of successful collaboration was particularly beneficial. The focus here was particularly on the first 100 days in a new job. Such personal dialog formats are an important step towards modern, patient-centric care."
About the Round Table for Gender Equality
The Round Table established in 2022 is part of HNU's gender equality strategy and promotes university-wide networking of stakeholders who are committed to gender equality. The structural gender equality work is based on the Bavarian gender equality concept, differentiated according to academic and non-academic staff. At HNU, the central instruments include measures within the framework of the family-friendly university, the BIZEPS advice center and the language guide for inclusive communication.
In addition to thematic work, the Round Table offers space for exchange, collegial advice and new impulses - with the aim of actively developing equal opportunities at the university in a future-oriented manner.
