Student Lisa Konrad brings her own musical to the stage

27.08.2025, Study:

Curtain up for Lisa Konrad: the Physician Assistant student at Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU) celebrated a successful premiere with her self-written musical "Act of Desperation" on 26 and 27 July to great applause and a near sell-out crowd. The performance was part of her compulsory elective cultural project.

The Physician Assistant student had long harboured the idea of writing her own musical. HNU's compulsory elective cultural project finally gave her the impetus she needed to realise her vision - despite a few challenges. She began writing the script and composing the music back in February. She was supported by a friend who produced the digital background music for one of the songs. The play, inspired by personal experiences, is about five students who struggle with different challenges during their studies.

The casting took place in April: Six leading roles were chosen from 17 applicants. A total of twelve participants rehearsed weekly from mid-April for the performance. In the week leading up to the premiere, they rehearsed almost every day - on one day they were even accompanied by a camera crew from RegioTV, which filmed a report on the project.

Successful premiere and a dream come true

The premiere was a complete success: on both evenings, the hall in the vicarage in Söflingen was almost fully booked with almost 130 guests. For many of those involved, it was their first performance on a stage - so the positive response from the audience was all the greater.

"It's nice to see that you can realise your dreams with commitment, perseverance and a strong team," says Lisa Konrad looking back.
