With this workshop, Matthias Wimmer from HNU, Martin Roith from THA and Pascal Gruber from HSK are marking the start of closer collaboration between the three Swabian universities. The focus was on key areas of activity that are of strategic importance to all three universities.
Mobility: Uniform standards for surveys
The participants discussed standardised methodological approaches for mobility surveys. The aim is to use comparable data sets to develop shared tools that will enable better analysis and planning of sustainable mobility options.
Greenhouse gas accounting: transparency and methodology
Another key focus was on greenhouse gas accounting. Among other things, the climate protection managers discussed the use of emission factors – for example, in district heating – as well as how business trips that have already been offset can be reported accurately and transparently in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol.
Operational measures and infrastructure
From LED retrofits and photovoltaics to the joint procurement of recycled paper bearing the ‘Blue Angel’ eco-label, specific efficiency measures and opportunities for cooperation have been identified.
Energy management at Vöhlin Castle
As Vöhlinschloss is used by several universities, the climate protection managers consulted with the relevant departments regarding potential energy management systems in accordance with ISO 50001 and 50005, with a view to identifying energy-saving opportunities even more systematically in future.
Raising awareness: involving students and staff
There are also plans for joint initiatives to raise awareness among university staff and students, with a view to embedding climate protection more firmly in the day-to-day life of the campus community.
Outlook: Regular exchanges planned
In future, the climate protection managers intend to meet at least once a quarter to work together to advance climate protection measures in the Swabia region efficiently and in accordance with uniform standards.
