Guests from nine African universities at HNU

26.11.2024, Transfer:

Strengthening transfer orientation in teaching and research using examples of good practice - that was the aim of the one-week workshop organised by the Africa Institute at Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU) for representatives of nine universities* from East Africa. As part of the EU-funded Erasmus+ capacity building project UPLIFT-Ag, 13 lecturers, researchers and deans from new universities in Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda and Zimbabwe were guests at HNU.

They discussed with Prof. Dr Jens Kolb, Vice President for Transfer and Continuing Education at HNU, how effective transfer strategies and activities can be designed and implemented. They learned from Prof. Dr. Elmar Steurer, representative for internationalisation, what role targeted internationalisation can play in this. And they experienced transfer orientation in teaching live at a half-day English-language project seminar "Design Thinking for Social Entrepreneurship" in the HNU Master's programme "Social Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Development", which Prof. Dr. Antje Wild and Prof. Dr. Thomas Bayer conducted jointly in the Innovation Space.

Exchange with international Master's students

The participants in the delegation from Africa also had the opportunity to exchange ideas with the international Master's students on this degree programme. Under the direction of Prof Dr Thomas Bayer, the guests then outlined initial solutions for effective transfer for their very country-specific challenges in the Innovation Space in a workshop format.

Exchange with start-ups from the HNU Founders Space

In the Founders Space, they got to know two of the start-up teams supported there - Campus Ready and Sea2Fresh - and discussed with them how they can develop and realise their innovation ideas.

Feedback from Prof Dr Thomas Bayer

"The visit and the experiences gained by the participants were consistently rated as very valuable and the numerous impulses and discussions provided important suggestions for the further work of colleagues at their universities," says Prof Dr Thomas Bayer, Director of the Africa Institute.
