Compass for teaching of the future: HNU adopts new teaching mission statement

23.04.2025, University News:

Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU) has adopted a new mission statement for teaching and learning - as a guide and source of inspiration for future-oriented, high-quality and diverse university teaching. In a collaborative process involving teaching staff, students and other stakeholders, ten guiding principles were developed that form the basis for the further development of teaching. This underlines HNU's commitment to continuously optimising teaching and learning and preparing students for the challenges of the future in the best possible way.

The new mission statement for teaching and learning at HNU sets out the vision and significance of teaching and learning at the university: It points out development directions, creates orientation and strengthens the quality awareness of teaching staff and students. At the same time, it promotes the motivation and commitment of all those involved, reflects the diversity of teaching and learning processes and provides impetus for the further development of teaching. It also addresses cooperation between internal and external stakeholders.

The mission statement sets clear priorities in ten "guiding principles of teaching and learning at HNU": Academicism, practical relevance and transfer orientation, internationality and interdisciplinarity are just as much a focus as student-centredness, diversity and innovative teaching formats.

The mission statement was developed in a comprehensive co-operative process involving all HNU members. Students, teaching staff and employees contributed their perspectives in workshops and surveys in order to develop a common vision for teaching. A core team pooled the insights gained and used them to form the new mission statement, which outlines the values, goals and development directions of university teaching at HNU.
