“I'm a Scientist, Get me out of here!” is an online service from the organization Wissenschaft im Dialog (WiD) that has been enabling school students to interact directly with researchers since 2020.
In written live chats and via a question function on the website, schoolgirls enter into dialog with scientists, get to know their day-to-day work and learn about the topics they are currently researching. The project takes place several times a year with different thematic focuses.
For the current round of topics, HNU Professor Stephanie Reiner was selected as one of the participating researchers. She was able to answer a wide range of questions from inquisitive students on the topic of “AI and education” - including “Why is AI so important for everyday life?”, “What was your most exciting study?” or “Can an AI become a teacher?”.
“Young people must be allowed to have a say in order to actively shape their future”
Taking part in the science communication format was important to the Professor of Innovative Didactics, both personally and professionally. “Young people will live in an AI-supported working world - that's why they must be allowed to have a say today in order to actively shape their future,” says Prof. Stephanie Reiner. “I'm a Scientist creates spaces for exchange and opens up new perspectives - especially for us researchers.”
