At the beginning of the year, Michael Fillié, auditor of berufundfamilie Service GmbH, presented the certificate to HNU Vice President Prof. Dr. Julia Kormann, Chancellor Marcus Dingel and Christoph Giebeler, Head of the Family and Social Counselling Center at HNU. "Family justice is an integral part of our mission statement. The renewed award recognizes our now sixteen-year commitment to the compatibility of work and family or study and family at HNU. The great thing about it is that it is a joint task. In a participatory approach, employees and students develop measures with berufundfamilie Service GmbH and implement them together. One thing I can say: the story is not over yet," said HNU Vice President Prof. Dr. Julia Kormann with a smile.
Dr. Michael Fillié added: "The USP of our audit is that it is a development audit. We at berufundfamilie Service GmbH do not set any targets that HNU has to achieve. Instead, the university groups involved decide for themselves on the measures to be implemented. What I find particularly good is that family equality is a top priority at HNU, which means that the university management is actively involved in the topic."
Support for students and employees
Around 300 employees and around 4,200 students at HNU benefit from measures to promote work-life balance. The offer currently includes flexible working time models, mobile working, parent-child rooms, advisory services and support services for family carers.
The next steps
The re-audit entitles the HNU to carry the certificate for a further three years. During this time, the focus will be on the further development of company and student health management, the promotion of professional development in harmony with the compatibility of family and private life, the increase of “belonging” to the university, the establishment of a diversity culture and the expansion of services for families. The implementation of the measures developed will be reviewed by berufundfamilie Service GmbH at the end of the audit period. The re-audit as a family-friendly university thus makes a valuable contribution to improving the quality of teaching, learning and work at Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences.
