The event began with an overview of new developments and challenges as well as best practices in occupational health and safety. Legal innovations, such as the changes to the new Hazardous Substances Ordinance, were discussed and DGUV Information 209-001 Man and Workplace - Working with Hand Tools was presented.
Questions such as "How are students instructed in laboratories?" or "How is first aid organised in laboratories?" were also discussed. This was followed by an open dialogue in which the participants discussed safety-related topics at their respective universities. The dialogue clearly showed how diverse the approaches to similar challenges can be - and how valuable it is to think outside the box.
Discussions and exchange in the labs
After lunch, the laboratories at Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences opened their doors to the participants. In small groups, the participants - equipped with a signpost - were able to visit the various laboratories and get an idea of the safety concepts and measures on site. This led to lively discussions and an intensive exchange of expertise. The opportunity to familiarise themselves with concrete solutions and implementations at another university was particularly appreciated.
For everyone involved, the day was an exciting insight into the work of colleagues at the other locations - and a successful start to what is sure to be regular collaboration in the future as part of SiBeLa.
