In his keynote speech “Artificial intelligence in the skilled trades - opportunities and challenges”, Prof. Dr. Jens Kolb, Vice President for Transfer and Continuing Education at HNU, gave a practical demonstration of how generative AI can already be used in everyday skilled trades. The focus was on specific application examples, questions about feasibility in the company and aspects of data security. "Generative AI is here to stay. Don't panic, try it out, make mistakes, get active," was Prof. Dr. Jens Kolb's appeal to the participants.
Exchange and discussions
The lecture was followed by a lively exchange between the guild members and Prof. Dr. Jens Kolb. The participants showed great interest in the practical impulses and discussed possible application scenarios in their companies.
Positive response to bridging the gap between the university and the skilled trades
Michael Stoll, Head Master of the Neu-Ulm Plumbers', Sanitary, Heating and Air Conditioning Technology Guild and District Master Craftsman of the Günzburg/Neu-Ulm District Craftsmen's Association, said enthusiastically: “The cooperation between the university and the guild is a win-win situation - it was an event with added value for all of us!”
HNU also sees the partnership with the trades as forward-looking. Ivanka Burger, Head of Project Development, Transfer and Cooperation at HNU, sums up: "We are particularly happy that we were able to bring the skilled trades to our university.
