Prof. Dr. Uta M. Feser, President of HNU, congratulates both of them and says: "Dr. Beate Merk and Gerold Noerenberg have helped shape Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences over many years – with political support, personal commitment and trust-based solidarity. Their commitment has been crucial to the development of HNU into a future-oriented, practice-oriented and international university."
Dr Beate Merk: involved in the founding and independence of HNU
Dr Beate Merk played a key role in the founding of HNU. As mayor at the time, she worked together with founding dean Prof. Dr Gerhard Hack to secure the university's independence – a milestone that was achieved in 1998. During her time as Minister of State, she supported the university at the state level and brought Vöhlinschloss Castle to HNU. Since 2011, she has supported the university as Honorary Senator and Chair of the University Council with strategic vision and personal commitment.
Gerold Noerenberg: Accompanying the further development of HNU
During his 16 years as mayor, Gerold Noerenberg worked intensively to promote the joint development of the city and the university. He supported the HNU in key projects such as the new buildings on the Wiley campus. Noerenberg always emphasised the importance of the university as a driver of innovation and a location factor for the region. In 2019, he was appointed Honorary Senator of the HNU for his many years of commitment, and he continues to support the university as a member of the Board of Trustees.
