HNU welcomes 550 new students for the summer term

16.03.2026, Press Release :

The campus is filling up again: more than 4,200 students are enrolled at Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU) for the 2026 summer semester. Of these, 550 are first-year students, whom President Prof. Dr Julia Kormann welcomed to the lecture theatres on 16 March 2026. More than half of the freshers are female, and just under a quarter come from abroad.

At the start of the semester, President, Prof. Dr Julia Kormann, who has been in office since March, welcomed the new students and introduced HNU and its educational mission. She emphasised that studying means far more than just achieving good grades – it means working together to tackle the challenges of the future, taking on responsibility and getting involved, for example in one of the many student initiatives.

Opportunities abroad, personal advice and Career Service

This was followed by presentations from key HNU support services. The Counselling and Information Centre for Parents, Personal and Social Affairs (BIZEPS) provided information on the counselling services available for personal challenges and student health management, whilst the International Office presented the opportunities for international placements or studying abroad at HNU’s more than 100 partner universities. Students were also given an initial overview of the Career Service.

Number of international students on the rise

Connected worldwide: In the summer semester, HNU welcomes 23 students from 13 countries, in addition to 91 full-time international students from 28 countries. HNU is enabling 39 of its students to spend a semester abroad in 18 countries during the summer semester.

Induction period

As in every semester, the HNU Student Council (StuVer) organises an extensive programme for freshers, spread over the whole week, designed to help first-year students settle into university life. In addition to the traditional Weißwurst breakfast, the programme includes campus tours, a city scavenger hunt, a freshers’ party and a group meal of Kässpätzle.

Student groups and other HNU departments introduced themselves at the student initiative fair in the foyer. Furthermore, during the first week, all new students are welcomed into their respective degree programmes and take part in the cross-disciplinary first-semester business simulation. Working in teams, they manage a fictional company and make their first business decisions – a practical introduction to studying at HNU.
