The field trip not only took the students through the terminals but also provided insights into security-related areas behind the scenes of airport operations. The focus was on determining which concepts, structures, and processes from the aerospace industry could be applied to the healthcare sector. It became clear right from the introduction: Both industries work with highly complex, safety-critical systems and bear an enormous responsibility, often under high time pressure and increasing complexity.
The insights into process optimization were particularly impressive: Standardized procedures, the consistent use of checklists, and clearly defined responsibilities are part of everyday life in aviation and make a decisive contribution to error prevention. This approach is also of central importance in healthcare.
In addition, the students learned about the role that structured communication (briefings and debriefings), the targeted use of artificial intelligence, goal-oriented sustainability management, and the conscious handling of economic policy risks and financing issues play in innovation and long-term success.
“The interdisciplinary exchange opened up new perspectives for the students and impressively demonstrated how valuable the transfer of knowledge between different industries is for sustainable solutions in healthcare,” reports Prof. Dr. Manja Rausendorf-Marzina.
