Building on a solid foundation: HNU president strengthens ties with Liebherr

21.08.2026, Transfer:

How can universities and companies work together to attract and nurture the skilled workers of tomorrow and inspire them to stay in the region long-term? The president of Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU), Prof. Dr. Julia Kormann, and Ivanka Burger, Head of Project Development, Transfer, and Collaborations, recently discussed these and other questions about the future during a company visit with representatives of their strategic partner, the Liebherr Group, in Biberach an der Riß.

Representing Liebherr were André Englet (Team Lead, Corporate HR Marketing), Julian Priebe (Head of Marketing Communications), and Samuel Seiffert (HR Marketing Specialist). André Englet and Samuel Seiffert are both HNU alumni. The visit focused on a dialogue about current challenges and opportunities in the areas of securing skilled workers, promoting young talent, and attracting international talent. The visit is part of a series of discussions between HNU and companies in the region, during which Prof. Dr. Julia Kormann first listens to the companies’ needs, assesses their requirements, and works with the partners to identify potential for future collaboration. Her guiding principle—“Innovations tailored to the region’s needs”—is at the heart of this process.

A long-standing partnership with diverse points of contact

Liebherr and HNU have been linked by a close partnership for many years. The company is involved in various areas of teaching and knowledge transfer. These include student projects—particularly in the field of design thinking—field trips, theses, and collaboration in the Systems Engineering degree program. In addition, Liebherr actively participates in HNU’s Sustainability Innovation Circle network.

Mentoring strengthens talent and career prospects

Another topic of discussion was mentoring programs as a means of promoting young talent and skilled professionals. Both HNU and Liebherr emphasize the exchange between experienced specialists, managers, and young talent. At HNU, the BayernMentoring program supports students in their professional and personal development. In addition, through the EXIST-Women support programme, experienced female mentors guide female students and graduates on their path to starting their own businesses. Liebherr also promotes the personal and professional development of its young talent through its own mentoring program. During the discussion, it became clear just how valuable intergenerational exchange is: it opens up new perspectives, promotes the transfer of knowledge, and creates space to reflect together on current developments and future requirements.

“The perspective of the younger generation is important for identifying trends early on and actively shaping the dialogue around them,” emphasizes Julian Priebe, Head of Marketing Communications at Liebherr-International Deutschland GmbH.

Prof. Dr. Julia Kormann emphasized the importance of ongoing dialogue between the university and the business community: “Opportunities for the future arise where academia and industry are already setting the course today. With Liebherr, HNU has a strong, internationally active partner at its side. Through a trusting collaboration, we are working to secure a skilled workforce, promote the next generation of professionals, and attract international talent to the region.”

In conclusion, both sides agreed to jointly advance current strategic areas and build on the successful partnership of recent years.
