In the run-up to the official signing in January 2026, Dr Minh Hanh Le, future programme director of the BDE programme, visited HNU. During her stay from 1 to 10 December, she actively participated in lectures for the bachelor's and master's programmes and took the opportunity to exchange ideas with colleagues from teaching and administration. "Personal contact is crucial for successful cooperation," emphasised Prof. Dr. Elmar Steurer, Internationalisation Officer at HNU.
Double Degree: New opportunities for students
The cooperation with VGU opens up new perspectives for students at both universities: Starting in the winter semester 2026/27, the programme will begin with a foundation year in Vietnam, before students enrol at both VGU and HNU from the third semester onwards. HNU lecturers will regularly hold block courses in Ho Chi Minh City in future. Upon completion of their studies, students will receive a Vietnamese and German university degree as a double degree, meaning that graduates will receive separate certificates from HNU and VGU.
Signing of the agreement in January
The agreement will be signed in January in Ho Chi Minh City by the presidents of both universities. HNU President Prof. Dr. Uta M. Feser and other Bavarian university leaders, who are visiting the city to learn about similar cooperation models, will accompany the trip.
The VGU – a university based on the German model
Founded in 2008, VGU is the first Vietnamese state university based on the German higher education model and works closely with German partner universities. With the double degree agreement, HNU will be the first Bavarian university to enter into such a cooperation with VGU.
