HNU researchers contribute expertise to psychology conference in the USA

17.04.2025, Research:

Scientific impetus from Neu-Ulm in Denver: Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU) was also represented at this year's conference of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP), which took place in Colorado, USA, in April. Prof. Dr. Johannes Basch and Prof. Dr. Michaela Eßbach presented research results from the field of industrial and organizational psychology.

As a specialist conference, the SIOP Conference brings together researchers, practitioners and students from the field of work, organizational and personnel psychology every year. It is regarded as one of the most important international platforms for dialog between science and practice in this field. The focus is on current research results, practical applications and the exchange of ideas on key topics.

HNU contributions on AI-generated learning videos, video interviews and discrimination in personnel selection

Prof. Dr. Johannes Basch contributed two papers to the conference: Firstly, he presented at the symposium "Video interviews: Insights of antecedents of applicants' perceptions and evaluations", he presented a student thesis dedicated to the question of whether ecological explanations can increase the acceptance of video interviews. Secondly, he presented a poster - also based on student theses - that investigates discrimination against people with speech impediments (such as lisping or stuttering) in job interviews.

Prof. Dr. Michaela Eßbach offered an insight into the psychology behind AI-generated learning videos in her contribution, which was created together with a student: In the form of a poster, she highlighted the results of a study into the differences that arise in terms of learning performance when the learning videos use a male or female avatar.
