HNU researchers receive Best Paper Award in the field of digital health

26.08.2025, Research:

Four researchers from the Institute for Digital Innovation (IDI) at Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU) have been honored by the Special Interest Group on IT in Healthcare (SIGHealth) of the Association for Information Systems (AIS) for their outstanding research work: Their publication on researching the subjective well-being of older people using natural language analysis was honored with the Best Paper Award 2025.

Within the AIS, the world's leading professional association for business informatics, SIGHealth is dedicated to researching and designing information systems in healthcare. Each year, the specialist group honors particularly outstanding publications with a Best Paper Award in the junior and senior categories.

This year, authors Nikola Finze, Deinera Jechle, Prof. Dr. Stefan Faußer, and Prof. Dr. Heiko Gewald received the Junior Award for their publication “How are we Doing Today? Using Natural Speech Analysis to Assess Older Adults' Subjective Well-Being.” The publication presents the development and testing of a machine learning model that can identify the subjective well-being of older people based solely on natural language.

The prestigious award recognizes innovative research at the intersection of AI, speech analysis, and health research, as well as the important contribution that scientists at the IDI are making to the digital support of an aging society. The award was presented at the America's Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS) in Montréal, Canada.
