25.07.2025, Study:

On 17 July, Prof. Dr Mona Spiegel and a group of dedicated students from the Physician Assistant (B.Sc.) course at Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU) attended the Bavarian PA Congress. This took place as part of the 102nd annual conference of the Association of Bavarian Surgeons in Regensburg and offered a platform for exchange, further training and networking in the field of surgical assistance.

A special highlight of the congress day was a session dedicated entirely to physician assistants (PAs). Exciting presentations showcased the many different ways in which PAs can be deployed in the various surgical specialities. The programme was supplemented by inspiring experience reports from abroad as well as specialist presentations on specific PA-relevant topics from everyday surgical practice.

For HNU students, the visit offered a unique opportunity to network with experienced colleagues from the field, learn about new professional perspectives and experience first-hand current developments in the PA role in the surgical environment.

Prof Dr Mona Spiegel draws a positive conclusion: “It was a valuable, inspiring and professionally enriching experience - both for our students and for me personally. The congress impressively demonstrated how versatile and important the role of physician assistants is in the surgical field.”
