HNU and PERI in dialogue: Working together to shape the world of work of tomorrow

23.07.2026, Transfer:

Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU) and PERI SE are further expanding their long-standing collaboration. During a visit to the company’s headquarters in Weißenhorn, HNU President Prof. Dr Julia Kormann and Ivanka Burger, Head of Project Development, Transfer and Collaborations, discussed the demands of tomorrow’s world of work, the role of universities in securing a skilled workforce, and the further development of joint activities with representatives of HNU’s strategic partner.

The discussion centred on the dialogue regarding the skills that will be required in the future and how universities can contribute to regional innovation and competitiveness through practice-oriented programmes.

Exchange on an equal footing

The discussion was attended by Alexander Schwörer, owner of PERI SE; Dr Christoph Maier, Head of HR Germany; and HNU alumna Cigdem Koyun (Recruiting & Employer Branding) on behalf of PERI. The panel was rounded off by Sabrina Götz, an HNU working student at PERI, and HNU alumna Lea Labude, who had already worked for the company as a working student whilst she was still a student. The involvement of students and alumni resulted in a particularly practical exchange. The participants were able to discuss both the company’s perspective and the expectations and experiences of the younger generation directly with one another.

Working students as a bridge between universities and businesses

A key topic was the importance of gaining practical experience whilst still studying. The students present spoke of the valuable insights they had gained into business processes and how theoretical knowledge acquired during their studies could be applied in practice and further developed. Prof. Dr Julia Kormann emphasised that practical work whilst studying not only makes it easier to enter the workforce but can also have a positive impact on academic success. At the same time, companies benefit from establishing contact with talented young professionals at an early stage and retaining them.

Skills for a global workplace

During the discussion, it also became clear that the requirements placed on graduates are constantly changing. Alongside specialist knowledge, cross-functional thinking, international experience and a willingness to take on responsibility are becoming increasingly important.

“Entrepreneurial thinking and cross-functional expertise are becoming ever more important. At the same time, there needs to be a willingness to take on responsibility and embrace new challenges. Particularly in a global company, international experience and direct contact with local staff and customers are especially valuable,” emphasised Alexander Schwörer.

The participants agreed that young talent should be encouraged to embrace technological developments with an open mind, to explore new perspectives and to gain experience outside their usual environment.

A successful partnership that adds value

The partnership between PERI and HNU has been in place for many years and encompasses a wide range of activities. In addition to close collaboration with HNU on courses, practical seminars and transfer projects, PERI has long supported the Deutschlandstipendium and employs many HNU working students.

The company is also actively involved in the fields of innovation and sustainability, acting as a source of ideas and a practical partner. For example, PERI is involved in the HNU’s Sustainability Innovation Circle and set the challenge for the AI Hackathon held as part of the IT Congress 2025.

“I am delighted about the close exchange with Alexander Schwörer and his team. PERI is a key partner of the HNU, and its perspective as a successful ‘hidden champion’ informs the further development of our degree programmes. The dialogue between industry and academia strengthens the region’s capacity for innovation and helps to align the skills development of our students even more closely with the demands of the future,” said Prof. Dr Julia Kormann.

In conclusion, both sides reaffirmed their desire to continue the successful partnership and to jointly develop new formats for students, businesses and the region.
