Female Event Vol. 4: Empowerment and entrepreneurial spirit at HNU

01.12.2025, Transfer:

On November 27, 2025, the Innovation Space at Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU) became a safe space and training room for body, mind, and courage: Under the title “Female Event Vol. 4 – Empower Yourself and Start Up,” female students, EXIST-WOMEN scholarship holders, and female founders met with Dani König, founder and CEO of the self-defense label Chinkilla, to work on their physical and mental strength and reflect on how both sides interact in the start-up process.

The event took place as part of the UN campaign “Orange the World,” which draws attention to various forms of gender-based violence every year from November 25 to December 10 and calls for visible signs against violence against women and girls worldwide. In this context, the focus was on self-empowerment, knowledge about self-protection, and awareness of one's own capacity to act. The aim was to empower the participants, give them tools, and encourage them to bring their own ideas, projects, and businesses to life.

From physical strength to entrepreneurial power

“Those who arm themselves against violence—both structural and physical—who can clearly defend their position and who actively shape their own lives instead of waiting around, have the best prerequisites for acting confidently as founders or managers,” explains Carina Volk-Schor, who helps organize the EXIST Women program at HNU. She welcomed the participants together with Dani König, who opened the evening with a personal anecdote about Orange Day and its significance in the fight against violence against women.

In the first part, the participants learned the basics in an intensive kickboxing and self-defense workshop – from clean kicks and punches to simple self-defense holds. In a safe atmosphere, they had the opportunity to test their limits, feel their own strength, and connect with each other. The focus was not on athletic performance, but rather on noticeable self-confidence, presence, and assertiveness—skills that can be crucial not only in dangerous situations, but also in studies, at work, and in negotiations as a founder.

The second part of the evening shifted the focus from the active part to the impulse mode. Dani König reported on her journey as an entrepreneur: from her initial ideas to doubts and challenges to the moments when she had to consciously “stick with it.” She also spoke about her motivation to empower other women. The participants actively contributed, sharing their own start-up ideas and questions and taking the opportunity to gather feedback and specific tips.

The event concluded with relaxed networking, during which the participants were able to deepen their conversations, exchange contact details, and discuss possible next steps for their own projects.

“An evening that inspires and connects”

“The event exceeded my expectations of women's power – not only in terms of mental strength, but also through practical, applicable martial arts skills that help us protect and defend ourselves,” summarized participant Adora. Participant Leoni added: “The evening showed me how much strength we all have within us. Since then, I feel stronger not only physically but also mentally. Knowing that I am not helpless but can defend myself in an emergency gives me a new, confident sense of security. My sincere thanks go to Daniela from Chinkiller and the organizers at HNU who made this empowering evening possible – an evening that encourages and connects.”

With the “Female Event” format, HNU underscores its commitment to not only imparting professional skills, but also creating spaces for personal development, empowerment, and networking – especially for women who want to forge their own path in the world of startups and innovation.
