Focus on nursing excellence: HNU and RKU as guests at the International Magnet Conference 2024

12.11.2024, University News:

HNU Professor Dr. Sylvia Schafmeister, Dean of the Faculty of Health Management at Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU), visited the renowned International Magnet Conference 2024 in New Orleans in the United States from 30.10.-1.11.2024 together with representatives of the Rehabilitation Clinics Ulm (RKU). Magnet hospitals certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) are recognized worldwide for outstanding nursing processes and above-average patient care quality. HNU supports RKU as a collaborative partner in achieving this status of excellence.

This year's International Magnet Conference was dedicated to key topics such as the implementation of council structures as shared governance, the importance of mental health for the satisfaction and retention of nurses, interventions against violence towards nurses and evidence-based studies that make nursing excellence visible and measurable. Another focus was on sharing best practices and celebrating successes together.

The Magnet philosophy represents a holistic management system for improving evidence-based nursing care. The criteria for achieving Magnet Hospital certification are demanding and require a comprehensive reorganization of care structures and practices. The path to final certification can take up to ten years. In Germany, the RKU in Ulm is a pioneer and is expected to be the first German hospital to achieve Magnet status in 2025/26. Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU) is an important academic cooperation partner of the RKU and supports the path to becoming a magnet hospital through various activities.
