HNU taps cooperation potential in Shanghai

29.11.2024, University News:

From October 21 to 26, 2024, the Shanghai University of Engineering Science (SUES) was all about international cooperation: as part of the SUES Global Partnership Week (GPW) 2024, university representatives from all over the world came together to discuss cooperation and development paths in higher education. Verena Seitz, Head of the International Office at HNU, represented Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU) at the event and gave a keynote speech. During the one-week stay in Shanghai, concrete opportunities for cooperation between SUES and HNU were explored.

In addition to HNU, universities from countries including the UK, the USA, Russia, Finland, Taiwan and Hong Kong also took part in the GPW. “The GPW is an important platform for promoting international cooperation and international exchange,” says HNU President Prof. Dr. Uta M. Feser. “As an international business school, we find ideal conditions here to exchange ideas about cooperation and educational goals and to further advance our international networking.”

Highlight of the GPW: the Presidents' Forum

The highlight of the GPW was the Presidents' Forum, which was also attended by the Deputy Secretary General of the International Education Association Shanghai, Lin Meng. In her keynote speech entitled “Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences and its cooperation with society”, Verena Seitz introduced HNU and provided insights into knowledge and technology transfer, applied research, innovation and entrepreneurship activities and the university's social commitment.

Intensive discussions about joint cooperation and educational goals

She then discussed a possible cooperation agreement between HNU and SUES with SUES President Tao Yu. Over the course of the week, meetings with the International Office there, the School of Management Studies and the School of Art and Design were on the agenda, in which options for future student and lecturer exchanges were discussed. Talks were also held with the Vice President of SUES, Chunming Xia. As part of the 2025 Study Abroad Programs Info Session, Verena Seitz presented HNU's exchange options to around 200 Chinese students. “The week at SUES was extremely productive,” says the Head of the HNU International Office, summarizing her stay. “I am particularly pleased about the prospect of a two-way student exchange, from which both HNU and SUES could benefit greatly.”

Cooperation with SUES to be concretized soon

The identified potential for cooperation is now to be translated into concrete collaboration. “HNU already has a partner in Shanghai - a cooperation with SUES would ideally complement our cooperation with Chinese partner universities,” explains Prof. Dr. Elmar Steurer, Internationalization Officer at HNU. “We will now continue to develop our joint ideas for a fruitful collaboration and formulate them into a cooperation agreement.”
