Alumni of the first hours return to HNU

26.03.2025, University News:

A joyful reunion: On 21 March 2025, more than 90 alumni from the early days of Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU) met again at their former place of study in Steubenstraße. The event "30Y HNU meets Steubenstraße - Reunion of alumni from the early days" took place on the occasion of HNU's 30th anniversary and brought together alumni, former professors and former and some current HNU employees.

Students from the 1994 to 2002 cohorts of what was then known as Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences gathered in what is now the Neu-Ulm City Library for a journey back in time to their student days and the early days of HNU. For the last event of the anniversary year, HNU Vice President Prof Dr Julia Kormann welcomed the guests in the former lecture hall and took a look at the past, present and future of HNU: "Where better to conclude our series of events for the 30th anniversary with the motto "30 years - HNU connects" than at the place where it all began: in Steubenstraße." Using the people who shaped HNU in its early days, she told the story of its foundation and emphasised that this success was only possible through teamwork and the combination of visionary ideas, passion and creative power.

Even then, HNU was supported by the Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences Association, which has accompanied HNU ever since. Manfred Weydmann, himself an alumnus of HNU and a member of the board of the association, looked back on previous joint projects and presented the association's portfolio of tasks.

History of Steubenstrasse and the Wiley site

Dr Larissa Ramscheid, Head of the Neu-Ulm City Archive, then reviewed the development of Steubenstrasse and the Wiley site. She talked about life under and with the American occupiers, showed the development of the US high school into the Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences and illustrated her descriptions with numerous photos.

Get-together and exchange

Afterwards, the guests had plenty of time to reminisce about their student days, meet professors and staff from back then and reminisce together over Maultaschen and Krautschupfnudeln. "What a lovely reunion," said one alumnus after the event. "It was a great pleasure to meet so many familiar people again and to relive the memories of my wonderful student days."
