Girls' Day @ HNU Labs: A fun start for female computer scientists
The Faculty of Information Management at HNU invited girls aged 13 and over to get a taste of the world of information technology. The focus of the day was on apps and their development: under the motto “Develop MY app! - A fun start for female computer scientists”, Prof. Dr. Dany Meyer and Prof. Dr. Erica Weilemann playfully introduced the participants to the basics of programming.
The students then developed their first programs, in which clicking a button plays the appropriate animal sounds for the image of an animal. They can continue their projects from home after Girls' Day thanks to open source access. “It was impressive to see how quickly the schoolgirls got to grips with the world of programming. With great ideas, they mastered one or two challenges and perhaps even laid the foundation for a later career in the STEM field,” says a delighted Prof. Dr. Erica Weilemann.
Boys' Day @ HNU Labs: Developing ideas for a healthy living and working environment
Prof. Dr. Alexander Würfel's workshop from the Faculty of Health Management at HNU focused on the topic of “Between boreout, burnout and prevention - the working and living environment of the future”. Students aged 14 and 15 worked on developing new ideas for corporate health management 4.0. Specifically, for example, they looked at support measures for older employees so that they can remain active at work for longer. Among other things, the students tested an age suit and experienced the physical challenges of getting older by simulating tinnitus, cataracts and joint problems.
