A tailwind for your studies: bridging courses in maths and programming at HNU

26.09.2025, Study:

Practical for the start of your studies: With two bridging courses, Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU) supports first-year students in successfully starting their studies: The maths pre-course of the Faculty of Health Management and the programming bridging course of the Faculty of Information Management offered more than 50 "first-timers" ideal preparation for the requirements of the first semesters.

The bridging courses are offered every semester and aim to bring students up to speed before they start their studies and make it easier for them to get started. The courses are also a first opportunity to make contacts.

Programming bridge course

Acquiring initial programming skills and getting to know the Python programming language in a fun way with your own projects - that's what the three-day programming bridge course with Prof Dr Erica Weilemann was all about. What are variables and data types? How do branches and loops work? The first-year students from the Information Management and Health Management faculties found answers to these and other questions in this course. They developed small games in teams, which they presented at the end of the course. The student tutors Jennifer Bell, Patrizia Kienzle, Tabea Stabenow and Maren Zanner provided support.

Pre-course maths

At the same time, the preliminary mathematics course for students on the Business Administration in Healthcare (B.A.) and Digital Medical and Nursing Management (B.Sc.) degree programmes took place under the direction of Prof. Dr Sandra Krammer and lecturer Katharina Krammer. Topics such as calculating fractions, percentages and roots, equations and functions were covered here.
