A focus on hands-on learning: On May 7, 2026, Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU) held its sixth field trip to Endress+Hauser Wetzer GmbH + Co. KG in Nesselwang. A total of 38 students from the Business Studies and Industrial Engineering programmes got an up-close look at one of the world’s leading providers of industrial measurement technology and gained insights into modern production and development processes.

The Endress+Hauser Group, headquartered in Reinach near Basel, is an internationally active family-owned company and one of the world leaders in measurement technology for the process industry. With 136 subsidiaries in 54 countries and more than 18,000 employees, the company generated sales of approximately four billion euros in 2025. The Nesselwang site, Endress+Hauser Wetzer GmbH + Co. KG, specializes in industrial temperature measurement technology and plays a central role within the group.

Insights into state-of-the-art manufacturing and technologies

At the start, the students received a comprehensive introduction to the corporate group and the Nesselwang site. This was followed by a detailed factory tour, which provided an in-depth look at production processes and technological innovations.

The tour of the new production and administrative building, which sets new standards in sustainability, was particularly impressive: thanks to a heat pump and photovoltaic system, the building operates in an energy-self-sufficient and CO₂-neutral manner. The modern employee restaurant “Alpin” underscored the importance of the work environment and employee satisfaction within the company.

In addition, the students were given access to key technical areas such as the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) absorber chamber, the printed circuit board assembly area, automated testing and manufacturing facilities, and the calibration laboratory.  This made the complex processes of industrial measurement technology clear and tangible.

Deepening Knowledge and Personal Exchange

A lecture on “Temperature Measurement Technology” rounded out the field trip. It built directly on the insights gained during the plant tour and provided a theoretical foundation for the knowledge acquired. During a concluding group lunch, students exchanged ideas with company representatives.

Strong connection between the university and industry

The excursion underscores the close collaboration between Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences and regionally and internationally successful companies. The goal is to provide students with practical insights and optimally prepare them for the demands of the professional world.
