What was your main motivation to study at the HNU?

I chose the HNU because of its practice-oriented teaching approach and its international, open-minded atmosphere. I was looking for a university where academic knowledge is closely connected to real world application, and where international students are encouraged to actively participate and contribute.

What truly makes the HNU special is its people.

What were your biggest concerns?

Like many international students, I initially worried about adapting to a new country, a different academic system, and everyday life in Germany. Thanks to the welcoming environment at the HNU, the support of the International Office, and the openness of professors and fellow students, these concerns quickly disappeared. I felt supported from the very beginning.

Would you recommend a stay abroad? Why?

Without any doubt, yes. A stay abroad is much more than an academic experience. It teaches you independence, resilience, and how to take responsibility for your own path. You grow as a person while learning how to contribute to a new environment.

Fun Fact

After arriving in Germany, I adapted so quickly that many people assumed I had grown up here. When I later mentioned that I originally came as an exchange student from abroad, the reaction was often pure surprise. It became a running  joke that I blended in so well that people forgot I had ever arrived from somewhere else.

What did you learn from your stay abroad?

My time in Germany helped me develop adaptability, intercultural awareness, and strong communication skills. I learned how to balance studies with professional work, collaborate in international teams, and take initiative instead of waiting for opportunities to come.

Ibrahim visited many beautiful places, such as the Lower Gaisalp Lake in the Allgäu

Were your expectations met?

Yes, and even more than I expected. The HNU exceeded my expectations not only academically, but also socially and personally. What I gained here goes far beyond a degree. It shaped my mindset, my professional path, and my sense of belonging.

Is there anything you would like to highlight about your experiences at the HNU?

What truly makes the HNU special is its people. When others see that you are striving and working towards your goals, they support you and stand behind you. Over the years, I became actively involved as an international Buddy, O-Phase guide, and event organiser. Supporting other international students in their integration became a natural way for me to give back to the community that once supported me. “Bring beauty to where you go, and you will find joy there.” This mindset guided my journey at the HNU and shaped the way I interact with people and contribute to my surroundings.
