We take a look in the rearview mirror: Our annual review shows what has happened at our university in the last twelve months with, despite and apart from the Corona crisis and which special moments, projects and successes have defined our academic year 2020.

Prof. Dr. Danny Franzreb receives the prestigious Emerging Photography Award 2019 in January. In the previous year, he had already won the IPA Award in Gold 2019 in the category "Urban Sceneries" with his work.

February
At the end of February, HNU receives BMWi project funding for the development of future-oriented technologies. The goal of the joint project: The design of new smart services and business models that enable security of supply, effective climate protection measures and an economically viable energy supply.

March
Everything is new in March: In the middle of the month, HNU receives a fresh look including a new logo, a new website and a new corporate design, which the Marketing & Communications department had been working on intensively.
April
With more than 700 new students and the two new study programs Physician Assistant (B.Sc.) and Business Psychology (B.Sc.), the summer semester 2020 begins on April 20 at HNU – this time virtually: Social Distancing requires Distant Learning.

May

The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is funding an innovative e-learning concept developed at HNU – the aim of the project: to use virtual reality to improve dental health among the elderly and support the care sector, especially in rural areas.

Neural Networks for Neuropathology: The new project "Neural Networks for Neuropathology" (N4N), which the Institute DigiHealth of HNU is conducting together with the Institute of Neuropathology of the Technical University of Munich (TUM), investigates pathological sections of glioblastomas with modern machine learning methods.

Virtual Reality Award for "Beat the Bot!": The team of the InnoSÜD subproject "Sales Lab" of HNU receives the DIVR Science Award for their virtual negotiation training.

September
38 students will begin their part-time studies at HNU at the end of September. In the three degree programs MBA General Management, MBA Digital Leadership and IT Management, and MBA Leadership and Management in Healthcare, participants will be prepared for a leadership position in just five semesters.

October
In October 2020, Neu-Ulm University (HNU) welcomes 882 new students. A total of 4,150 people are now enrolled at the three faculties – an HNU record. The winter semester 2020/21 combines corona-conditioned attendance formats with digital teaching. For first-year students, HNU offers the newly designed mentoring program "100 Helping Hands".

November
Under the motto "IT 2020 - How smart are we?", the eleventh IT Congress will take place at Neu-Ulm University (HNU) on November 12, 2020 - this year online. Around 500 company representatives, university staff and students will take part in the presentations and discussions around IT trends of the present and future.

December
On December 1, the Association for the Promotion of Neu-Ulm University awards the Neu-Ulm University Prize for outstanding digital teaching for the first time. Innovative teaching concepts that were created under the special conditions of the summer semester 2020 will be honored in two categories.
