A finished game in 48 hours: Winter Game Jam at the HNU

03.12.2024, Study:

One weekend, one task, one game: from November 15 to 17, around 60 game enthusiasts worked in teams to create a unique game in the Innovation Space at Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU). The Winter Game Jam 2024 was initiated and organized by Ayman Bouhlou, who studies Game Production and Management (GPM) at HNU. In an interview with RegioTV, he talks about the background to the competition.

Developing a game in just 48 hours - that was the challenge facing the participants of the Winter Game Jam 2024. The theme “Don't turn back” was only announced on site.

Games were awarded in the categories “Best Game”, “Best Audio”, “Best Visuals” and “Funniest Game Idea”. The games submitted covered a wide range - from 2D titles with detailed pixel art to 3D games such as a horror parody of a well-known furniture store. Two entries were awarded the prize for best game: “UMBRA” (Lars Gohde, Sebastian Dreschmann, Arthur Bondarenko and Kevin Bruno) and “Turn back, eat whip” (Martin Ambronn, Jonathan Buss, Sebastian de Andrade, Theresa Skirl).

The first and second place winners in each category received vouchers for a live action shooter worth 1,200 euros, and the third place winners did not go away empty-handed either: They received a voucher for a music session at a professional music studio in Ulm. All the award-winning games are presented here: itch.io/jam/hnu-winter-jam-2024.

The Game Jam was supported by RedBull, SWU, Shootex, Tunnelvision Studios and Games.Bavaria.
