HNU students at the monastery: special course on leadership skills

07.04.2025, Study:

As part of the new "Käpsele Programme" and the "Healthy University" student health management programme, ten Master's students from Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU) were guests at Münster-Schwarzach Abbey near Würzburg. Over three days, the students attended seminars under the motto "Taking the lead - mindfully shaping change". The specialised course was funded by the Techniker Krankenkasse health insurance company.

Michael Stolle, Managing Director of the House of Competence (HoC) at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), introduced the group to the programme with a welcome and introductory round as well as a thematic introduction on the topic of "Leadership in times of change and transformation". Over the three days of the event, eight seminars and impulses from various speakers took place, including "Leading and being led - an exercise" and "Healthy leadership in a start-up company". The students also took part in the monastery rituals, such as morning worship and the Eucharistic celebration.

HNU received a lot of positive feedback on the seminars from the students: "I found the exchange with the various speakers particularly exciting - their different perspectives provided a lot of food for thought. The diverse group of participants also made the seminar very lively and enriching," summarised Merlin Mößle, Master's student on the Communication & Design for Sustainability (M.A.) programme.

Moana Hösch, a student on the Digital Healthcare Management Master's programme (M.A.), said: "I was really impressed by the stimulating input from the speakers, the great conversations with the various participants and basically the very inspiring atmosphere created by both the monastery and the community of seminar participants. The inspiration is still with me and I feel really positively influenced by what I experienced. I am very grateful to HNU, KIT and Techniker Krankenkasse for the opportunity and I am sure that I will remember this great and exciting experience for a long time to come."

Raphael Steinborn, a student on the Master's programme in Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics (M.Sc.), also praised the event: "All the speakers inspired me in their own way with their presentations. My greatest personal realisation came from Bodo Janssen: "A strong path leads through the crisis." He used his crisis to become a better version of himself. This motivates me to see the positive in the adversities we face in our lives in order to grow from them. His words "in silence we find the answers" have motivated me to invest more time in contemplation in order to find answers to important questions in life.
